This was a hand lettering, type illustration and painting I did for the South African municipal elections. Translated, 'I LIKE MY TOWN'. The word 'LIKE' also doubles for the word 'TASTE'. A play on words that Afrikaans is well known for and the reason behind using the cake to make up the letters. It is based on old Afrikaans heritage oil paintings, and still life portraits.. The billboard was part of a larger campaign and series that aimed to speak directly to demographics. In this case, the Karoo and small town's around South Africa where the majority are Afrikaans speaking and to encourage them to vote in the local elections.
